Lichfield v Olton
Richard Smith drew on board 2. Alan Lloyd, Rob Wallman and Robert Reynolds all
lost, so the match is lost. Phil Holt and Mark Cundy adjourned, but Phil
resigned and Mark agreed a draw.
South Birmingham B v Olton
Rob Wallman lost early on board 3, after a pawn got through to the seventh rank.
Alan Lloyd levelled the score with a fairly short win on four and Richard
Reynolds drew on board six. Phil Holt exchanged rook for two pieces and won on
top board leaving 2 games adjourned. Mark Cundy, whose Queen had spent most of
the first session being chased around the board, went into the adjournment a
piece for Pawn up. He somehow held on to his three remaining rook's pawns to
convert the game to a win. Richard Smith turned down the opportunity to draw,
went for the win and came back with nothing, but it did not matter.
Olton v Bushbury
Phil Holt had a good win on board 1 (Game in Newsletter 93). Richard
Smith on two and Alan Lloyd on board 4 drew. Robert Wallman also drew. but Mark
Cundy had a good win. Dave Cheshire in as reserve drew on board six.
Olton v South Birmingham C
Robert Reynolds drew on board 6 after a tricky period of play. Mark Cundy lost
on five and Rob Wallman lost on board 3 in a very double-edged position. His
opponent's Queen's-side breakthrough was more effective than Robert's
King's-side attack. Alan Lloyd v Gary Hope part III and two other games were
adjourned. Alan agreed a draw, Phil Holt won and Richard Smith lost.
Kynoch/Barn v Olton
Richard Smith on board 2 drew, as did Mark Cundy and Dave Cheshire on
the bottom boards. Three other games were adjourned. Alan Lloyd and Phil Holt
went on to draw, but Rob Wallman lost.
Olton v Warley Quinborne
Alan Lloyd won by default on board 4. Phil Holt had an impressive win on board 1
and Dave Gostelow also won on three. Richard Smith on two and Mark Cundy also
won, but Rob Wallman lost on board 5.

Terrill Trophy
- Round 1
Tuesday 29th September - Olton I 5½-½ South Birmingham IA
A depleted South Birmingham team saw two players fail to show. Phil Holt
won on top board, Mark Cundy drew and the rest won by various methods.
- Round 2
Tuesday 17th November - Olton IIA v Olton I
Robert Reynolds on board 1 missed a combination from Phil Holt which
finished the game abruptly. Richard Reynolds should have beaten Richard
Smith on two, but missed an easy finish and lost on time. A third of the
winner's moves were made by his King. Ken Allen drew early on against Dave
Gostelow on board 3 and Dave Cheshire's draw with Rob Wallman on five was
fairly predictable. Steve Chadaway was two pawns down on board six against
Mark Cundy, but held on for a draw. The match is in the hands of Trevor Holt
and Alan Lloyd.
