BDCL Division 2B
Fixtures & Results 2007-08
Olton A v Olton B
Jim McDonald on board five had a reasonably quick draw with Dave
Brown, before adjourning to the snooker room. Steve Chadaway on bottom board
went material down but adjourned in an improved position. Dave Cheshire on board
3 drew with Andy Cottom, after an early advantage petered out, while Richard
Reynolds drew with Paul Hodgskin on top board, with a slightly worse position.
Trevor Holt's game looked like a win for what seemed an eternity, the many
twists and turns causing as much anguish for the onlookers as the players.
Eventually, Chris Pitt's options ran out and the A team went one ahead. Richard
Smith adjourned against Ken Allen a pawn up and went on to win, but Steve
Chadaway lost to John Llewelyn.
Olton v Halesowen
Ken Allen drew on board two and Dave Brown on three. Andy Cottom also drew with
long-standing adversary Maureen Clark on 5 and Richard Liszewski got a win by
default. The two remaining games went on long into the night and were adjourned,
but were settled before the resumption.
Sutton Coldfield v Olton
A tough match for the team saw Dave Brown lose quickly on board 1. Paul Hodgskin
drew on three, but Chris Pitt lost on four. The other games were adjourned. Ken
Allen then lost and Andy Cottom drew, but John Llewelyn won his game.
Olton v Stourbridge
Paul Hodgskin lost on top board, but Andy Cottom won quickly on three. Ken Allen
drew on board 2 and Jim Gillespie also drew on six. John Llewelyn and Richard
Liszewski both adjourned. John went on to lose a drawn game, but Richard's
opponent resigned to draw the match.
Birmingham v Olton
A disasterous night for the team saw draws for just Ken Allen and Jim
Gillespie. Paul Hodgskin, Andy Cottom, Richard Liszewski and John Llewelyn all
lost their games.
Olton v Warley Quinborne
Only 2 of the games were finished on the night and the score was
poised at 1-1. However, the remaining results were all agreed to win the match.
Ken Allen lost on board 1, but Dave Brown on two drew whilst holding a clear
advantage. Andy Cottom and John Llewelyn also drew, but bottom boards Dave
Stockwin and Warren Archibald both won.
Shirley v Olton
Dave Brown recorded a good draw on board 1 and Ken Allen dropping
down to two managed to win. However, the lower boards were overrun as Andy
Cottom, Dave Stockwin and Warren Archibald were all beaten. Only John Llewleyn
on board four scored a point.
West Bromwich v Olton
Andy Cottom had a good win on board 3 and Richard Liszewski also won
on board 5. John Llewelyn lost on four, but Warren Archibald won bottom board.
The top two boards were adjourned, but two losses drew the match.
Olton v South Birmingham
A disastrous night saw the team 5-0 down at adjournment time, with
only Richard Liszewski still playing. Probably the less said about this, the
better. Richard subsequently drew.
Lichfield v Olton
Dave Brown on top board scored a good draw, but Ken Allen lost on
two. Andy Cottom on board 3 drew and Chris Pitt on 4 also drew, after
sacrificing a second piece for a perpetual check. Richard Liszewski on bottom
board won, leaving John Llewelyn adjourned to decide the match. This game was
drawn as was the match.
Solihull v Olton
Paul Hodgskin scored a well-earned draw on board 1, but Dave Brown
lost badly on board 2. Ken Allen did well to win on board 3, but it was another
poor performance on 4 for Andy Cottom. John Llewelyn drew on board 5 with former
club-mate Julian Somerfield and Solihull defaulted bottom board, the second
default for Richard Liszewski in as many days.
Olton v Tamworth
The opposition turned up with several reserves, but it was still a
struggle. Andy Cottom lost early on, but Ken Allen again levelled the scores,
with a win on board 3. Chris Pitt lost on board 5, but Dave Brown on two pulled
back from a dodgy position for a draw. John Llewelyn's board 6 player resigned
at adjournment and top board was agreed drawn, for the team's sixth drawn match
of the season.
