The Birmingham League Division 6 team finished sixth last season.
BDCL Division 6
Fixtures 2009-10
Redditch v Olton
One of Olton's cars failed to turn up and only Nigel Terry arrived. He won his
game.
Olton v Warley Quinborne
What must have been one of Olton's oldest ever teams was pitched against a much
more youthful (only slightly in some cases) Warley team. John Clulee on board
one drew as the baby of the team. Peter Simpson on two came under some
Kings-side pressure, but successfully parried the attack and also drew. Bill
Yeomans on board 3 used his King as a battering ram and eventually delivered
mate with Queen and Rook on the side of the board. Ian Thornley on board 4 had
an entertaining if somewhat inaccurate game, where pieces were traded like
football stickers. He eventually won pretty much everything in the space of a
few moves and delivered mate with Queen, Rook and Bishop.
Olton v West Mids Police
The opposition only brought 3 players, so Olton were one up. Nigel
Terry won early on board 3 and Bill Yeomans won soon after on board 2. John
Clulee drew on top board.
Westminster v Olton
Nigel Terry won on top board, but John Clulee lost on two. Tony Goldwater won
his games on board 3 and Peter Simpson completed the win on board 4.
